Geeky Nostalgia: Looney Tunes...In The Future

I discovered something very disturbing on Netflix yesterday, Warner Bros. took it upon themselves to futurize the classic Merry Melodies cartoons, Looney Tunes, back in 2005 called "Loonatics Unleashed."  It was WB's attempt at bringing the world of Bugs Bunny to the modern, youthful audience of today.  Claims were made by the WB producer's that this new version of the Looney Tunes was a continued evolutionary stage in their development to help meet the standards of contemporary society.

Of course this show was met with much skepticism by fans, calling the show distasteful and a poor portrayal of the popular characters.  The show began with a serious and menacing look, even in the character's faces.  But due to the internet petition started by an eleven year old boy, the producers decided to lighten up on the menacing demeanor and softened them up, making them much more in tune with the classic cartoon show.

I'm glad the show only went on for two seasons.  Having seen a few episodes of the show, I found it quite silly and an unnecessary production decision, especially since Looney Tunes has such a HUGE cult following.  This bastardized version of the Looney Tunes provided nothing to continue the creative genius that came along with the classic cartoon show.  I have no clue if the show was only a temporary thing or planned to last for an extended period of time, but the two season length gives me confidence that fans truly didn't like this new direction WB was trying out with Looney Tunes and that they should stick to a more classy approach to any new Looney Tunes endeavors for the future.
