Geeky Nostalgia: Shyamalan Talks About His Airbender Influence

With Shyamalan's resume of mind twisting, psychological thillers, one has to wonder where in the world did director M. Night Shyamalan get it in his head to make a film adaptation of a Nickelodeon cartoon?  Yahoo news states the director's new film direction stemmed not only from his kids, but from his wife.

"My wife who really has been kind of in neutral about my career was insane about it... [She said] 'You have to do it. This is it. This is the one.'"

The film stars film newcomer Noah Ringer, playing the part of Aang, a master of air bending. In this film, Aang is at war with the fire nations, who are out to tak control of this "last air bender." The five elements can be magically harnessed into powerful displays of magical control. Nothing was mentioned as to how faithful Shyamalan is staying to the Nickelodeon hit cartoon show, but one thing can be for certain, with Shyamalan at the helm, you can expect a different look and feel of the world of Avatar.
One thing I certainly hope fans don't do is make thje mistake of accusing Shyamalan of plagerising James Cameron's hit film, Avatar. As we all know, the cartoon came over a decade before Cameron's over rated film first came to the pre-production stages. One can assume from that, based on the work and effort Shyamalan puts into his films, that he began working on this cinematic piece of work about the same time Cameron started his.
